WHY AI NEEDS A MATCHMAKER TO FIND THE PERFECT HUMAN

WHY AI NEEDS A MATCHMAKER TO FIND THE PERFECT HUMAN

Your AI functions will only do the job when you find the right human to manage them.

AI is taking over industries. If you are running a large-scale business in 2021, it must be having some degree of automation or AI as a functionality.

AI’s role in your business can range from the usage of chatbots to helping you close a sale. Given how the disruptive technology is advancing, you may also be used to optimize sales and cut down costs.

Whatever your strategy to use AI is, it is important to keep yourself aware that AI is like a puppet and it is only as good as its puppeteer. With a skilled person handling the strings and narrating a meaningful story, the puppets cannot do their job perfectly.

Let’s look into this metaphor.

Did you ever receive an email about a service you were in need of? Maybe you searched for a new home security device and got an email from a global home safety solutions provider, without you having to do anything for it?

That’s an intelligence-triggered email. Okay, so you speak to the sales representative of the company that sent you the email and were quoted with a justifying high price for the product but bailed out because the monthly service deal was too much.

What happens next?

The company realizes that you’ve rejected their product when the salesperson codes a missed opportunity in the CRM stating that the customer thought the price was too high.

The intelligence-emailing system then sends you another email, this time talking about the importance of having their home security device, or the accolades their product has received, or service testimonials claiming that the product was the best thing that happened to them.

While I give these scenarios, in reality, it’s hard to make out the tone of their suggestions. Sometimes these intelligence-emailing services powered by AI can have a passive-aggressive tone that might alienate the potential customer.

If your business uses an automated AI-powered emailing system, pay attention.

No matter how advanced your AI systems and tools are if your sales team’s idea of selling is outdated, not customer-centric, dishonest, and poorly worded, there’s nothing that automation or AI can do about it.

It’s only as good as its puppet master, remember? Before you employ AI to increase your sales ask yourself these questions:

Is my team’s approach verbally suited for a machine?

In a way, selling is a competitive sport and many sales representatives love a challenge. If they had to sell verbally, they would use dominating adjectives about the products or services to win the customer.

If this works for the field your business is in, then go ahead. But if it is a sensitive industry where words can either persuade or dissuade your potential customer, think about how the AI system will translate the words used by your sales representative while giving an input.

Think about the tone of the end result without the charm of a human to tune down the words with the right tone. Machines and algorithms don’t have tones.

Are your emails honest?

In this digital age, people seldom trust marketing emails. Even more so if they’re all praises about the products or services being offered.

It’s easy for people to Google the claims made in the email because 99% of the time, they know it’s an AI bot that has sent the mail. In this case, honesty will help you because that’s what they will notice when they fact-check your company.

Can you hire a copywriter?

If your AI processes involve pre-written sales messages, hire someone who can narrate a story about your products and services. You will need a person who is good at editing and writing effective sales copies. Salespeople are often aggressive when it comes to their selling methods.

Just like how a badly written script can flop a puppet show for kids, badly worded automated sales emails can throw the potential customer off-guard and cost you the reputation of your company.

It’s good to move towards an automated future and being up to date with the current trends but only using it rightly will do the job.

No matter what technology it is, it needs a human element, and so does AI. The point is to augment humanity with technology, not replace humans with technology.

Hence, if you started with a new tech process, be it AI or ML, find the right human for the technology.
